Sharing our Northern Line memories to celebrate 30 years of mjf

Manchester Jazz Festival (mjf) is celebrating its 30th anniversary from 16-25th May 2025. The festival will see hundreds of northern, national and international jazz musicians descend on Manchester, showcasing the genre’s leading lights alongside its most exciting emerging talent. To celebrate this special year, we asked two of our Northern Line alumni to share their memories of performing at our Northern Line mjf showcase.

Nicola Farnon

I absolutely loved playing on the NL showcase stage with my trio - it felt so special and the audience and vibe was just brilliant. The sun shone that day and we rocked the gig.  I also loved the footage we got afterwards - and the photos!  All in all, an exceedingly lovely afternoon’s work!

The Northern Line showcase at MJF in St Ann’s church was one of the highlights of my career so far. 500 audience members with one cello and no amplification. An amazing opportunity to share my music and place myself at the centre of it. A truly beautiful moment that changed a lot of things for me.
